    No. ECI/PN/44/2019 Dated: 30th March, 2019 PRESS NOTE Community Radio Stations across the country assure to contribute their best for voter education & awareness. 120 Community Radios attend SVEEP workshop of ECI at IIIDEM In a first of its kind initiative, the Election Commission of India has reached out to over 150 Community Radio stations from across the country to help educate and inform the voters. The event was organised by India International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Management (IIIDEM), in partnership with Seeking Modern Applications for Real Transformation (SMART), at IIIDEM, Dwarka, New Delhi. The main purpose of the workshop was for training and capacity building of Community Radios for voter education and awareness. In the Valedictory address on March 29, 2019, Mr. Umesh Sinha, Senior Deputy Election Commissioner, ECI said that the Community Radio is one of the best medium to reach the last voter of the country. He said that these workshops were just the beginning to a long term and sustained engagement and Community Radio can play a vital role in motivating and mobilising the voters, enlisting the underserved voters into the electoral roll, mobilising them to go to the polling booth, educating them about their rights and responsibilities, and making them an informed and educated voter. He emphasised that every voter is the first representative of the country, they are the soldiers and play an important role in protecting democracy. All voters across the country have the same power. Elections provide a level playing field as each vote has the same power, no matter who casts it –the richest of the rich or the poorest of the poor. He said that Community Radio can play an important role in strengthening democracy by developing content in their local dialects and deepening the process of voter education and awareness upto the grass root levels. He assured that Community Radio Stations will now become an integral part of the voter education programme. The workshop was inaugurated by Mr Chandra Bhushan Kumar, Deputy Election Commissioner & DG, IIIDEM on March 25, who iterated that Community Radios can play a pivotal role in increasing voter enrolment and participation in the “Festival of Democracy“. He said that the tag line of ‘No voter to be left behind’ was to ensure that each and every eligible voter irrespective of his or her economic status, class, caste or profession understands the importance of his or her vote. He talked about the measures taken to include migrant workers, homeless, tribal persons, persons with disabilities (PWD), service voters, NRIs. He said that the effort of the Commission is to ensure fair and fearless elections and that Community Radios can play an important role in assisting Election Commission. Ms. Archana Kapoor, Founder of SMART, said that inclusion of Community Radio stations in the campaign is also recognition of the work by ECI, being done at the grass root levels by the stations. The stations will broadcast programmes in their own dialect and will develop 5 programmes each, besides broadcasting promotional material. Ms. Kapoor assured that Community Radio station, across the country, will contribute their best for voter education.

    No. ECI/PN/43/2019 Dated: 29th March, 2019 PRESS NOTE ECI collaborates with Indian Railways for Voter Awareness Campaign; Four long distance Trains to carry voter awareness messages As part of Voter Awareness campaign for Lok Sabha Election 2019, Election Commission of India and Indian Railways have come together to utilize four long distance Trains to carry voter awareness and motivational messages. The Train displays important contact for the citizens including the Voter Helpline number and the National Voters’ Services Portal besides motivational messages urging them to Vote. Indian Railways has one of the largest railway networks in the world. As per the report submitted by the Ministry of Railways, on an average, Indian Railways carries 22.24 million passengers and 3.04 million tonnes of freight each day. This widespread network ensures that communication on this platform has a wide reach in urban as well as rural segments. The trains have been selected on the longest North-South route and East-West route and covers 19 States in all. Kerala Express is a daily train covering 3035 Kms in 8 States in 51 hours 10 minutes and has 41 stops. There are 20 stops with the stoppage of 5 minutes or more, details enclosed. Capitals covered by Kerala Express are Bhopal, Thiruvananthapuram. Himsagar Express is a weekly train covering 3714 Kms in 12 States in 71 hours with 69 stops. There are 29 stops with the stoppage of 5 minutes or more including the last stop. State capitals are Thiruvananthapuram, Bhopal, Nizamuddin/New Delhi and Jammu Tawi. Howrah Express is a daily train covering 2087 kms in 6 states in 37 hours 35 minutes with 63 stops. There are 19 stops with the stoppage of 5 minutes or more. Capitals covered are Ahmedabad, Raipur, Howrah. Guwahati Express is a weekly train covering 3237 kms in 7 states in 67 hours 40 min with 41 stops. There are 23 stops with the stoppage of 5 minutes or more. Capitals covered are Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Patna and Guwahati. On 29th March, 2019, Mr Ranbir Singh, CEO Delhi , Ms Padma Angmo, Director, Election Commission of India and Mr R N Singh, DRM, Delhi flagged off Kerala Express at New Delhi Railway Station. Kerala express will be flagged off by State Chief Electoral Officers and District Election Officers at the State and District HQs as it traverses across the country. Similarly other three trains shall also be flagged off during their maiden journey in coming weeks. As the trains travel across the country, citizens will be encouraged to click a photograph with the train and upload it on social media, for further spreading the message.

    ECI/PN/9/2019 Dated: 21st January, 2019 Press Note Subject: ECI organises a Workshop for Radio Jockeys on Voter Awareness. Election Commission of India organized a workshop for Radio Jockeys (RJs) of leading FM channels including All India Radio and various private FM channels. Total 19 Radio jockeys from major FM channels viz. Big FM, Red FM, Fever 104 FM, Radio Nasha, Ishq FM and Radio City attended 2 hours interactive session, where they participated in activities for dissemination of voter education. The workshop is a part of the engagement taken up by the commission with the major stakeholders. FM radio is one of the important medium, which connects the voters with the election machinery. The workshop was organized to familiarize the Radio Jockeys with the election process so that they can help in wide and accurate dissemination of information to their listeners. The session began with introduction to the workshop by Sh. A. K. Pathak, Secretary, Election Commission of India, thereafter, the participants were provided information on the various initiatives of Voter education taken by the Commission with special focus on EVM VVPAT awareness and ‘Verify your details on Electoral Roll’ Campaign ahead of Lok Sabha elections 2019. The participants then built a dummy ballot paper as part of an activity ‘Build Your Ballot’ of Voter Awareness Forum/ Electoral Literacy Clubs. Director, Ms. Padma Angmo interacted with the participants wherein they discussed their queries and assured to take forward the association with ECI on voter awareness in an organic manner. Her interaction was followed by a quiz, which conveyed basic information on voter awareness through interesting questions. The session adjourned with vote of thanks by Sh. Sujeet Kumar Mishra, Under Secretary, Election Commission of India.
