PRESS NOTE

Subject: Extension of hours of Poll in bye-election to 26-Serchhip (ST) Assembly Constituency of Mizoram till 7.00 pm.

Under the programme for holding bye-election to 26-Serchhip (ST) Assembly Constituency announced by the Commission on 16th March 2021 and subsequent notification on the 23rd March 2021, the hours of poll were 7.00 AM to 6.00 PM of the 17th April, 2021.

The Commission has now taken into account the request of extension of polling time to enable all the voters to exercise their franchise made by political parties and also recommended by the Chief Electoral Officer Mizoram. Accordingly, the Commission has today notified that the hours of poll for the bye-election to 26-Serchhip (ST) Assembly Constituency to be held on 17th April 2021 will be 7.00 AM to 7.00 PM i.e. extending it by one hour more.

All the political parties and candidates are being informed and due notice will be put at polling stations about the extension of the timing. The Chief Electoral Officer, Mizoram has been directed to arrange wide publicity of this extension of timing so that voters can avail the benefit.

Commission expects that its decision will help voters to turnout in large numbers and exercise their franchise.
